Behind the scenes yesterday, shooting with @lechatnoirphotography at the Berkeley city club for a 1920s swim shoot. This pool was designed by Julia Morgan! For those of you who don’t know who she was: Julia Hunt Morgan was an American architect and engineer. She designed more than 700 buildings in California during her long and prolific career. She is best known for her work on Hearst Castle, along with the Neptune pool, but she also designed chapel of the chimes in Oakland! (For those of you in the bay who know where that is—it’s a special place to me for a myriad of reasons).

Morgan was the first woman to be admitted to the architecture program at l'École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and was the first woman architect licensed in California. Pretty amazing. What a treat to get to see such a beautiful space (which is usually members only).
