Grand Lobby of the The Warner Grand Theater - Milwaukee, WI

The Warner Brothers Theater chain spent $2.5 million dollars to open this movie palace in May 1931 in the midst of the Great Depression.  Originally there were maroon draperies around the mirrors that would have softened the effect of all that silver.  The movie theater closed in 1995 and was in danger of being demolished.  But The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra acquired and renovated the theater as their new performance space. The grand opening was scheduled for spring of 2020 when the pandemic hit.  They recently began doing concerts with live, socially distanced audiences and I was happy to be there last night.

See my adjacent post for the interior of the theater.
