A little glimpse at backstage development on the Lackadaisy animated film, featuring 3d artist Newt’s beautiful speakeasy model work, with textures designed by Frog.  This all started with a very simple blocking model and blossomed from there into this swanky, art deco den of iniquity.

To clarify, these are reference models for the painted backgrounds that will appear in the film. Having a 3d model to refer to helps the background artists keep things like lighting, furniture orientation, and all of the decorative details consistent from one scene to another.

…and maybe it’ll make a good VR chat room at some point too?  Hehe.
